I've been drawing since I was in grade school, next to my Dad who was a marble/granite engraver...then began oil painting in high school at a local art center from professional artists. When I was employed, I moonlighted by taking classes at local art schools and community college, forever drawn to the arts.
Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, I have a special fondness for trees and waterways....the natural elements....the design, texture and colors. I enjoy impressionistic and representational landscape as well as abstract painting or collage and the process of allowing a work to just evolve not knowing where I’ll end up. Some works on paper find new life and contribute a piece to a new composition. Whatever the subject, I strive for rich, layered colors and sometimes utilize a palette knife to scrape and achieve texture. I also am inspired by the effects of sunlight and shadows. After media exploration, I seem to have found a home with acrylics on canvas, but still enjoy some collage work, too.
